In Santa Cruz, California, a bystander captured video of 16-year-old rookie lifeguard Ryder Williams rescuing a 10-year-old boy from the ocean at Seabright State Beach. The child had been swept approximately 15 yards offshore when Williams reached him, with several beachgoers also joining the rescue. The entire operation lasted just over two minutes.
President Donald Trump has since invited Williams to the White House to receive a high civilian honor. Williams, despite his young age and inexperience as a lifeguard, has been praised for his quick actions and bravery.
