18 Years of Work and 450 Peony Varieties – Dagņija Voika's Pride in Pelči
Dagņija Voika has spent 18 years creating a peony garden at her homestead Ziedoni in Pelči, Kuldīga region. Now the garden boasts 450 varieties, including over 100 hybrids she bred herself.

In Pelči, a small locality in the Kuldīga region, visitors can admire a remarkable peony garden. Dagņija Voika began developing it 18 years ago on her homestead Ziedoni. Today, the garden features 450 varieties of peonies, attracting both locals and visitors from farther afield. What started with just a few plants has grown into a vibrant collection.
The gardener takes the greatest pride in the hybrids she has bred herself. Their number has now exceeded 100, each one unique. Voika shared with Latvian Radio that these self-created plants are her greatest joy, as they require special care and patience. The garden is open to the public, allowing anyone to enjoy the spectacular bloom. Such a large collection is rare in Latvia and highlights the vitality of horticultural traditions in the region.
