Two-time Latvian champion Vyacheslav Sharpar dies on 39th birthday in Greece
Ukrainian footballer Vyacheslav Sharpar, who won two Latvian Virslīga titles with Riga FC, died on his 39th birthday in Greece.

Tragic accident in Greece
Former Riga FC midfielder Vyacheslav Sharpar passed away on June 2 – his 39th birthday – in a tragic accident in Greece. His family is currently working to repatriate his body to Ukraine.
The news was announced by the footballer's mother on social media. "The sea took him. A terrible accident," she wrote, recalling her son's talent and determination which led him to a professional football career.
Career in Latvia
Sharpar played for Riga FC during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, making 31 appearances. He helped the club win two Latvian Virslīga championships in 2019 and 2020.
The Ukrainian Football Association has expressed condolences to his family.
Broader career
The vast majority of Sharpar's career was spent in his native Ukraine. He also played in Kazakhstan and Moldova, and earned two caps for the Ukraine U-21 national team. He is survived by four children.
