Former Riga FC footballer Vyacheslav Sharpar tragically passed away on his 39th birthday. His mother Valentina announced his death on social media, stating that the sea took him in a terrible accident.
Disappearance After Swimming
According to available information, the athlete went missing on June 2 after swimming off the coast. Family members reported his disappearance two days later, on June 4, prompting a search operation involving the coast guard, divers, and other services. The search lasted several days and covered a marine area.
Later, a man's body was found at sea, initially believed to be Sharpar's. Final identification still requires confirmation by experts.
Football Career
Sharpar had ties to Latvian football, having played for Riga FC, with whom he won the Latvian championship in 2019 and 2020. He was a well-known Ukrainian midfielder who played for clubs including Volyn, Vorskla, Metalist, Dnipro, Arsenal Kyiv, and several foreign clubs. With Vorskla, he won a bronze medal in the Ukrainian championship and played in the Europa League.
Family and Farewell
The family is currently arranging the repatriation of his remains to Ukraine. Sharpar is mourned by his wife, four children, parents, and sister.
