Adobe acquires image and video enhancement tool maker Topaz Labs
Adobe has announced the acquisition of Topaz Labs, a developer of AI models for image and video enhancement, planning to integrate its technology into Creative Cloud and Firefly.

Adobe announced on Thursday that it is acquiring Topaz Labs, a company specializing in AI models for video and image enhancement. The acquisition will make Topaz Labs part of Adobe's creative business.
Topaz Labs, which won an Emmy last year for its production technology, has been in operation for over two decades. In recent years, it has released models such as Astra for AI video upscaling and Wonder for image retouching and enhancement. The startup has also developed technology that enables large video models to run on consumer-grade GPUs.
Adobe already offers some of Topaz's tools within its Creative Cloud suite. The company plans to integrate Topaz's models into its Firefly AI app and other parts of its image and video editing suites. Adobe stated that Topaz's offerings will also remain available as standalone services through its website.
Deepa Subramaniam, Adobe's Vice President of Product Marketing for Creative Cloud, said in a statement that professionals who want to combine real-life footage with AI clips can use Topaz's products for tasks like sharpening details, reducing noise, or restoring archival footage. She highlighted that Topaz Labs brings deep expertise in optimizing large, complex AI models to run directly on device, enabling faster and more responsive experiences for customers.
Adobe faces fierce competition from Canva and Blackmagic Design (owner of DaVinci Resolve) in the image and video editing space. The company has been integrating AI into all its apps and has created an AI-centric media editing studio with Firefly. By acquiring startups like Topaz Labs, Adobe aims to keep users within its ecosystem, preventing them from turning to other software for video editing and enhancements.
The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026.
