Agnese Lepse appointed as director of Skrīveru secondary school

Municipal deputies of Aizkraukle County have approved Agnese Lepse as the new director of Andrejs Upītis Skrīveru Secondary School during an extraordinary session. She is set to assume her duties on 17 August. The previous head, Ieviņa Piļka, had submitted her resignation and left the school at the end of July.

A selection process was held to find a successor, with three applicants taking part. All three advanced to the next stage, and Lepse received the highest evaluation. She has been serving as director of Ķeipene Primary School until now. Her educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in social sciences in management science from the University of Latvia, a master’s degree in business management, and a master’s degree in tourism science from Turība University of Applied Sciences. She also completed professional training as a dance and rhythm teacher at Riga Teacher Training and Educational Management Academy.

Professionally, Lepse has worked as a preschool and music teacher, led folk dance groups, and been involved in tourism and hotel business. For the past seven years she has headed Ķeipene Primary School. Speaking to the deputies, she noted that Aizkraukle is her birthplace, and she is glad to contribute to the municipality. She described pedagogy and management as her passion and said that taking part in children’s education is one of the most beautiful jobs. She considers Skrīveri a good place for children to grow and learn, and sees the new position as a unique experience.

Lepse acknowledged that there are many challenges, but they do not frighten her. Working in a smaller school has taught her to be like an “orchestra,” handling a wide range of tasks. She also pointed out that education is a field with constant changes and that she has worked with six ministers of education and science during her career. Cooperation with different generations, she said, has given her valuable preparation for taking on the new role.
