"Forbidden Method" launches pre-election game "X Hour in Silgale"
Ahead of this year's Saeima election, Latvian Television's programme "Aizliegtais paņēmiens" tests how parliamentary candidates would handle crisis situations in a game called "X Hour in Silgale".
Latvian Television's investigative programme "Aizliegtais paņēmiens" ("Forbidden Method") is running a new project ahead of this year's Saeima election — a game titled "X Hour in Silgale". Its aim is to find out how candidates running for a seat in parliament would make decisions under crisis conditions, and how well representatives of different political forces are able to cooperate with one another to solve complex problems.
Three episodes, three parties
The project consists of three broadcasts, each one playing out a different simulated crisis scenario. In every episode, representatives of one political force take part — five candidates for a Saeima seat from that particular party. Altogether, three different political forces are involved in the game, each represented in its own episode by a group of five candidates.
During the simulated situations, candidates must show they can quickly get their bearings, discuss possible solutions and reach a joint decision that matches the demands of the crisis. The programme's creators stress that this format allows voters to judge politicians not by campaign promises but by how they actually think and act under pressure.
The programme airs ahead of this year's Saeima election, giving viewers a chance, before they vote, to see candidates' decision-making style and their ability to cooperate in crisis situations.
