Actor Avots: Political interference in art is a red signal, but theatre wins
Dailes Theatre actor Kārlis Arnolds Avots says politicians going after artists is dangerous, but the play 'Order No. 2' has already paved the way for a sequel.

Actor Kārlis Arnolds Avots, who is currently building an international career, has commented on political interference in art regarding Dailes Theatre's production 'Order No. 2'. The play tells the story of 2011, when then-President Valdis Zlaters for the first time in Latvian history initiated the dissolution of the Saeima.
Avots emphasizes that history shows – when politicians start targeting artists and interfering in their work, it is a very red signal that has often led to bloody chapters. However, he believes there is no reason to worry at the moment, as theatre has emerged as the winner from this situation. In his opinion, material for a new play – 'Order No. 3' – is already being developed.
The play 'Order No. 2' attracted the attention of certain political forces during the pre-election period, who attempted to influence its content. Avots comments this as an attempt to 'go after artists', which is unacceptable.
