Albanese criticizes Hanson for 'talking Australia down' overseas

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Sunday criticized One Nation leader Pauline Hanson for 'talking Australia down' during her overseas tour. While visiting Tiwi Island, Albanese was asked about Hanson's attendance at the CPAC conference in London and her podcast with far-right activist Tommy Robinson, as well as her holiday with billionaire benefactor Gina Rinehart.

Albanese stated: 'When I have the opportunity to represent Australia overseas, I talk Australia up. I don't talk Australia down. I go as someone who's proud to represent our nation and proud to talk about what we are as a nation.' He emphasized that all parliamentary representatives have a responsibility to speak positively about Australia when abroad.

The PM's comments come as an awkward interview with Hanson aired on Channel Seven.

In other news, Independent Schools Australia launched a campaign to increase government funding for private schools, targeting key Labor and Teal seats. Data shows 98% of private schools are funded above the Schooling Resource Standard, while over 98% of public schools are below it.

Additionally, Albanese officially opened Exercise Pitch Black 2026, Australia's premier international air combat exercise in Darwin. Over three weeks, 100 aircraft and about 2,500 personnel from 20 countries, including the US, Japan, and Germany, will participate in training to strengthen regional cooperation and security.
