According to The Verge, Amazon has made a silent upgrade to its Fire HD 10 tablet that launched in 2023. The 32GB storage version now comes with 4GB of RAM, up from 3GB, accompanied by a price increase from $139.99 to $154.99. The 64GB version still offers only 3GB of RAM, and all other specs remain identical, including a 10.1-inch 1920x1200 display, a 2GHz eight-core processor, a 13-hour battery, and expandable storage via microSD. The refreshed model is only sold with lock screen ads, which can be removed later for a one-time fee. The original 3GB/32GB model is still available at $139.99 while stocks last.

Amazon has not disclosed the reason for the update, but as AFTVnews notes, the RAM crisis driven by the boom in AI data center construction is affecting memory chip availability. The outlet also points out that Amazon may be having difficulty sourcing the original hardware components. Additionally, Valve's Steam Machine now uses a single 16GB RAM stick instead of the originally announced pair of 8GB sticks, reflecting similar supply constraints.
