Anthropic's Claude chatbot to be able to analyse users' bank account data

AI company Anthropic is testing a "Personal Finance" feature that lets its Claude chatbot review a user's spending and budget. It will initially be available to paying subscribers in the US.

AI company Anthropic has begun testing a new feature called "Personal Finance" that will let its chatbot Claude analyse users' personal finances. The tool will initially be available to US users on the paid Pro, Max and Ultra plans. After linking a bank account, people will be able to receive a personalised overview of their spending, payments and everyday financial habits.

OpenAI introduced a similar solution in May on its ChatGPT platform.

Access to bank data

To provide access to account information, Anthropic is working with the fintech company Plaid, whose system is connected to more than 12,000 financial institutions. Claude will be able to analyse a user's transactions from the past two years.

An important limitation: the chatbot will only be able to view the data. It will not be able to transfer money, make investments or otherwise handle the user's funds.

What users will be able to do

Users will be able to ask Claude to prepare weekly spending charts, expense calendars and personal budget overviews. They can also put specific questions to the chatbot, for example in which categories the most money was spent over the last month, or how everyday expenses have changed.

If a financial term is unclear to a user, Claude will be able to explain it in plain language.
