Anthropic cleared to restore Mythos 5 access to certain US organisations
The US government has given Anthropic the green light to restore access to one of its most powerful AI tools, Mythos 5, for select organisations that operate and defend critical infrastructure.

Anthropic announced on Friday that the US government has allowed the company to restore access to Mythos 5, one of its most advanced AI models, for a set of US organisations. Earlier this month, the Trump administration issued a directive banning foreign nationals, including Anthropic employees, from using the company's Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models, citing national security concerns. In response, Anthropic had to cut off access for all customers to comply with the order.
However, after working closely with the government since June 12, Anthropic received approval to redeploy Mythos 5 to certain organisations. "Today, the government notified us that Mythos 5, our strongest cybersecurity model, can be redeployed to a set of US organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure," the company said in a statement. "We’re restoring access for these organizations quickly, and we’re continuing to work with the government to expand access to Mythos 5 and make Fable 5 available for general use again," it added.
The US decision to block Mythos and Fable earlier this month raised serious concerns among EU officials. Responding at the time, French Minister for Europe Benjamin Haddad called on Europe to "invest more, support its innovators, and equip itself with the means to master the technologies that will determine power in the 21st century." He emphasised that "Europe cannot settle for being an open market dependent on technologies designed, funded, and controlled elsewhere."
