Apple Says Over 100,000 Apps Are Now Optimized for the iPhone Duo
Apple announced that more than 100,000 apps built for its foldable iPhone Duo are now on the App Store. The company also released over a dozen notable app updates optimized for the new form factor.

Apple announced on Friday that more than 100,000 apps built specifically for its new foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, are now live on the App Store. The US tech company says thousands more are being added every day. The figure matters because early reviews of the device criticized the lack of optimized apps at launch.
New updates
The announcement coincided with the release of more than a dozen notable app updates. They include Microsoft Word and Outlook, Zoom, sports apps from the NBA and NHL, shopping apps Etsy and LTK, productivity apps Goodnotes and Extra, and the Halide Mark III camera app. These join apps already optimized for the device, such as Netflix, YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp.
Apps that are not optimized show a black bar at the side of the screen, which takes up valuable space, and sometimes hide important functions in an overflow menu. Apple said more than 2,000 developers attended over 50 in-person workshops in 19 cities worldwide, where they could use the device and work on their apps with Apple's support.
Demand outpaces supply
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model. It sold out within hours of orders opening, and shipping times have now slipped into next year. On this week's earnings call, Apple said it is hard to predict when the constraints behind the delays will ease.
Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, praised how quickly developers embraced the device and said the company expects updates to keep accelerating. Apple's list also includes Spotify, ChatGPT, Canva and Strava, updated for iOS 27. TechCrunch notes that not all updates have fully rolled out yet: Spotify still showed the black bar on its review unit.
