Apple Hikes Prices on MacBooks and iPads; Prime Day Offers Last Chance for Deals

Apple has officially raised prices on several MacBook and iPad models, citing component shortages. However, Amazon Prime Day still offers discounts that may be the last opportunity to buy at lower prices.

Apple has followed through on its warning of “inevitable” price increases. The new MacBook Neo is now $699 (+$100), the MacBook Air starts at $1,299 (+$200), and the MacBook Pro jumped nearly $400 to $1,999 – a 20% increase despite using the same M5 chip as the Air.

The iPad lineup also saw hikes: base iPad to $449 (from $349), iPad mini to $599 (from $499), 11-inch iPad Air to $749, 13-inch iPad Air to $949, and iPad Pro models to $1,199 and $1,499. iMac and Mac Studio prices are also up.

Fortunately, the price announcements coincided with Amazon Prime Day, where several deals remain. The 13-inch MacBook Air is $949 ($350 off new price), the MacBook Neo is $590, and the base MacBook Pro is $1,549 ($450 off). The base iPad is $299, and the iPad mini is $500.

The price increases are attributed to component shortages as memory manufacturers shift production to AI data centers. Even Apple, with its high volume, could not avoid the rising costs. It is unclear how long Amazon’s deals will last, as prices there may eventually adjust to Apple’s new levels.
