Apple unveils new iPad Mini with larger OLED display
Apple has announced a new iPad Mini featuring an 8.5-inch OLED display, with prices starting at $699. The tablet is powered by the new A20 Pro chip.

Apple, the US technology company, has announced a new iPad Mini with an 8.5-inch OLED display. The company revealed the tablet a few days before its "Pro and tell" event, scheduled for Wednesday. The Wi-Fi-only model starts at $699.
What the new model offers
Besides the OLED screen, the iPad Mini gets an upgraded A20 Pro chip. It supports some of Apple's new Siri AI features, including the option to adjust how expressive the assistant's voice sounds and how fast it speaks.
The tablet's 12-megapixel front camera has moved to the long edge of the device, which makes video calls easier when it is held in landscape orientation.
Background
The new model follows the 7th-generation iPad Mini released in 2024, which came three years after the 6th generation in 2021. The 7th-generation tablet started at $499 and was mainly a spec update, bringing the A17 Pro chip, support for the Apple Pencil Pro and 128GB of base storage.
In his review for The Verge, David Pierce described it as a "new low for the product" and said it felt like a tablet designed by a supply chain rather than by someone who wants users to like it.
What may come next
According to The Verge, the new iPad Mini arrives ahead of other rumored product launches that could happen this week. These may include a touchscreen MacBook Pro, as well as an M6-equipped MacBook Pro and iMac. The story is still developing.
