Demand for preorders of Apple's first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, has pushed some US shipping estimates as late as January 2027. Apple called the demand "nothing short of extraordinary."

Preorders for the iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable phone, opened on Friday, and demand has been strong enough that some of the latest US orders on Apple's online store now show delivery dates as late as January 2027. For buyers hoping to get the device before the holiday season, that is a setback.

Apple's response

Apple told the broadcaster CNBC that the demand was "nothing short of extraordinary." The company added that it is working to get the new product to customers as quickly as possible and will keep accepting orders online.

The source notes that preorder enthusiasm does not guarantee a device's lasting success, but it is a significant early signal.

Estimates vary

Reports from customers point to a wide range of outcomes. Some were able to arrange pickup at an Apple Store as early as October 23, while others were given shipping estimates in November or December. Buyers who ordered later see January delivery windows online, along with a pickup option asking them to check back for availability on October 24.

Apple has previously mentioned shopping for the iPhone Duo in stores or online, but it has not confirmed whether its physical stores or other authorized retailers will have stock. At the time of writing, the website of electronics retailer Best Buy showed shipping estimates for November.
