A shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban on Monday, June 22, 2026, left three students dead and seven others injured. The attackers, aged 14 and 15, were taken into custody shortly after the incident.
Regional police chief Brigadier General Jason Capoj confirmed that both suspects and victims were students at the school. During initial questioning, the suspects said they had been bullied, which may have motivated the attack.
Authorities are still trying to determine how the teenagers obtained the firearms—a 9mm pistol and a .38 caliber revolver—and how they managed to bring them onto campus, which had only one security guard at the entrances. Most of the casualties were female students.
While gun-related crimes are common in the Philippines, school shootings are relatively rare. In 2022, a man opened fire at a university in the Manila metropolitan area, killing a former city mayor and two others.
