Survey: One in Three Latvian Residents Spend Over €1,000 Annually on Hobbies
According to a survey by Luminor Bank and Norstat, one in three Latvian residents spends more than €1,000 per year on hobbies. The largest expense category is travel, with notable differences between genders and age groups.

The survey reveals that 30% of residents allocate the most money to travel, making it the top hobby spending category. Sports and active recreation is the second most common expense, with 15% of men and 7% of women prioritizing it. Women, on the other hand, are more likely to invest in creative hobbies such as gardening, handicrafts, music, photography, or drawing – 18% of women compared to 8% of men. Cultural events, including concerts, theater, and cinema, are a less significant spending category overall, mentioned by only 6% of respondents. However, women (8%) are more active in this area than men (4%).
Travel as the largest hobby expense is especially characteristic of residents aged 50 to 59. Creative hobbies are more common among people over 40, while sports and active recreation are a priority for younger individuals. The survey was conducted in April 2026 by Luminor Bank in cooperation with the research agency Norstat, surveying 1,010 respondents in Latvia aged 18 to 74.
