Archaeologist Urges Visit to Grebu Hillfort in Late July: Possible Site of Metsepole Castle
Archaeologist Mārcis Kļaviņš recommends visiting Grebu hillfort and Grebu bowl hill in late July, when an archaeological excavation may reveal the location of Metsepole Castle.

In the Latvian Radio program "Zināmais nezināmajā" (The Known Unknown), archaeologist Mārcis Kļaviņš urged people to visit Grebu hillfort and Grebu bowl hill at the end of July. During this period, archaeological research is planned that could potentially answer the question of the legendary Metsepole Castle's location.
Grebu hillfort and the adjacent Grebu bowl hill are situated in Latvia's natural landscape and are known as possible ancient settlement sites. Metsepole Castle is mentioned in historical sources as an important medieval fortification, but its exact location remains uncertain. The archaeologist emphasizes that this is an excellent opportunity not only to enjoy nature but also to observe archaeological work firsthand and possibly learn new facts about Latvia's ancient history.
