Latvia Allocates €4.24 Million for Foreign Films and Major International Events in 2027

The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) will accept applications from 25 November to 11 January in the fifth selection round of a state support programme. The programme covers the filming of foreign productions and the organisation of major international events in Latvia, with €4.24 million available for 2027. Support can reach 30% of a project's eligible costs, and funding will be awarded through a competitive process.

Who can apply

Support can be requested for shooting foreign feature films, animated and documentary films, and series in Latvia. Funding is also intended for internationally significant cultural, sports, business and other public events with a substantial economic impact.

Event organisers must meet a specific condition: the project has to attract at least 5,000 foreign participants and visitors who spend at least two nights in Latvian tourist accommodation. Projects must be completed, with the final payment request submitted, no later than 15 November 2027.

Beneficiaries and results

LIAA notes that bringing in foreign film crews generates orders not only for film professionals but also for providers of transport, hospitality, catering, construction, equipment rental and other services. Large international events similarly raise demand for local companies' services.

In earlier selection rounds in 2025–2026, co-financing of €9.8 million was approved for 29 film projects. The agency forecasts that projects under the programme will bring more than €7.4 million in taxes to the state budget. The programme's economic assessment estimates it could generate about €72 million in export revenue over three years. According to LIAA, each euro of public funding invested is expected to return roughly three-fold.

New international series projects are also planned in Latvia, including “Last Call” and “Westwell”, for which “Nafta Films” will provide filming services, LIAA says. More information on the conditions and how to apply is available on the Business.gov.lv platform.
