The United States on Tuesday again launched strikes against targets in Iran. Washington announced that the operation was a retaliatory step taken in response to attacks by Iran's Revolutionary Guard against merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz and against American forces in the region.

The US statement linked the strike to what it described as Iranian Revolutionary Guard attacks on commercial shipping and on US military personnel. According to the announcement, those assaults targeted vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz as well as US forces stationed nearby.

The new operation marks another round of US military action against Iranian targets, with Washington describing it as an act of self-defense in response to ongoing threats.
