US Resumes Strikes on Iran to Protect Navigation in Strait of Hormuz
On July 8, the United States resumed military strikes against Iran to prevent it from blocking the Strait of Hormuz. Washington accuses Tehran of recent unjustified aggression against merchant vessels.

The US Central Command announced that on July 8, following an order from the commander-in-chief, it launched additional strikes against Iran. The goal is to further weaken Iran's ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Command stated that the US holds Iran responsible for recent unprovoked aggression against merchant ships and civilian crews navigating this vital international waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically important sea channel between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, through which a significant portion of the world's oil is transported. Any threats to shipping in this region could have global economic repercussions. The US vowed to continue defending free navigation and respond to any aggression.
