Is the US Government's Anthropic Ban Accidentally Helping the Brand?
The US government forced Anthropic to pull two new AI models over national security concerns, but experts suggest the ban may inadvertently boost the company's profile ahead of a potential IPO.

At the end of last week, the US government ordered Anthropic to remove its two newest models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, citing national security risks after Amazon researchers reportedly found a method to bypass Fable 5's guardrails.
Cybersecurity researchers have since signed an open letter calling the move dangerous. Anthropic itself noted that similar jailbreaks exist in other models, raising questions about whether the ban is a genuine security concern or another chapter in the tense relationship between Anthropic and the Trump administration.
On this episode of TechCrunch's Equity podcast, hosts Anthony Ha, Sean O'Kane, and Rebecca Bellan discussed what the ban means for developers building on Anthropic's platform and for those watching the IPO. They noted that the restriction could paradoxically increase Anthropic's visibility and generate more interest from potential investors.
