US Secretary of State Rubio Signals Willingness to Meet with Russian and Chinese Foreign Ministers

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, currently in Manila to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meeting, has expressed readiness to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. When asked by journalists about potential meetings, Rubio stated that the United States is open to the possibility.

Rubio did not specify what topics might be discussed in such meetings, noting that these matters are delicate. He emphasized that ASEAN serves as the primary way for the US to engage in the region. Additionally, Rubio plans to participate in several bilateral meetings and talks with other members of the strategic dialogue group "Quad" — Australia, India, and Japan.

This announcement comes amid ongoing efforts by Western nations to find diplomatic solutions in strained relations with Russia and China. A meeting with Lavrov and Wang Yi could signal a shift in US foreign policy, but it remains unclear whether such meetings will actually take place.
