Canceled Portal Prequel F-Stop Becomes Playable Through Compiled Leaks
Community members have compiled leaked data into a nearly finished build of F-Stop, Valve's canceled prequel to the Portal game series. The build still lacks textures and dialogue but is largely stable.
F-Stop, the canceled prequel to the Portal series from game developer Valve, is now playable in an unofficial build. The community assembled it by combining all the leaked data available so far. It is not a finished game, but this version is likely the closest thing players will get to an official release.
How the build came together
In August, a major leak of Steam data occurred, totaling more than 12 TB. It contained F-Stop assets, along with data from early versions of Left 4 Dead, Portal 2, Half-Life and other titles.
More recently, the game's source code and map data were leaked to the Discord server of the Valve Cut Content project. These were merged with the assets from the earlier leak, producing an almost fully finished version of the game.
State of the game
As shown in several YouTube playthroughs, the build is still missing textures and dialogue, but it is largely stable. Players can try out the camera mechanic: it lets them photograph physical objects from the real world, store them, and then modify or relocate the captured object.
Valve has given no indication of an official release for F-Stop, so the compiled leaks may remain the closest players come to the game.
