Refreshed Apple Pencils may arrive in 2027 with improved repairability
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple plans to release two updated Apple Pencil models in the first half of 2027, potentially featuring better repairability due to EU regulations on replaceable batteries.

Upcoming European Union regulations could lead to the next Apple Pencil models having replaceable batteries. It has been nearly three years since Apple introduced its refreshed stylus with a USB-C port and two years since the more premium Apple Pencil Pro. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple reportedly has two new Apple Pencil models in store for the first half of 2027, to coincide with the expected release of updated iPad models.
Gurman reported that one model, with the codename B582, will be an update to the entry-level Apple Pencil that charges via USB-C. The second refresh, currently codenamed B632, will update the Apple Pencil Pro. While the existing Apple Pencil Pro introduced a new sensor that detects user squeezing on the barrel, Gurman said that the upcoming design could see improvements in repairability. According to Gurman, Apple is working hard to comply with new EU regulations calling for more easily replaceable batteries in consumer electronics, which could lead to more repairable Apple Pencil models.
For Apple customers, this would be a welcome change, as iFixit has deemed all Apple Pencil models "repairability fails" due to the inability to replace the internal batteries after they die. This wouldn't be the first time that EU regulations have impacted Apple's product designs, considering the major shift to USB-C with the iPhone 15 lineup.
