Belarus Says It Thwarted Sabotage Plot Aimed at Russia
Belarus's KGB says it intercepted a group preparing a sabotage attack on a strategic facility in Russia, claiming the operation was coordinated from Ukraine. Russia has not commented on the claims.
Belarus's security service, the KGB, announced Thursday that it had stopped a group allegedly preparing a sabotage operation against an unnamed strategic facility inside Russia. According to the agency, the plot was disrupted while still in its preparation phase.
The KGB claimed the operation was being coordinated from neighboring Ukraine, with Belarusian territory intended to serve as a transit route for smuggling drones, communications equipment and other supplies to operatives already positioned inside Russia.
The agency did not disclose the identities of those detained or specify when the arrests occurred. It also declined to name the Russian facility that was allegedly targeted.
Belarusian authorities said they are working with Russian law enforcement to track down any possible accomplices tied to the plot. Russia has not yet issued a public response to the allegations made by its neighbor's security service.
Belarus's Position in the War
Belarus remains Russia's closest ally in the region. In 2022, it permitted Russian forces to use its territory as a launching point for the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a decision that continues to shape the security dynamics between the two countries and their neighbors.
