Rumors: Apple to Launch AirPods with Cameras and Second Folding iPhone in 2027

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is on track to release camera-equipped AirPods by late 2027, along with a second-generation foldable iPhone. Also mentioned is a 20th anniversary iPhone with a curved edge-to-edge display and a new chip roadmap.

Following WWDC and the announcement of new AI-powered features, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has shared additional details about rumored Apple hardware. He confirms that the previously mentioned AirPods with cameras are still on schedule for a late 2027 launch. While users will be testing the iOS 27 beta this fall, the new earbuds are already being internally tested with next year's iOS 28 update. They will feature cameras in the stems and lights to indicate when data is uploaded to the cloud. These AirPods could provide the upgraded Siri with “visual context” about the user's surroundings, ahead of Apple's eventual release of smart glasses.

Gurman also mentions a second-generation foldable iPhone, which will follow a model expected this fall. This indicates Apple's commitment to the new product category and hopefully better utilization of dual screens. He also discusses the long-rumored “20th anniversary” iPhone, codenamed V73 and V74. It will follow this year's iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in size but feature a “nearly edge-to-edge display with curved glass that wraps around the sides.”

The standard iPhone 18 may not launch until next year, running on an A20 series chip similar to phones planned for this fall. The 2027 phones are expected to jump to a 2nm A21 chip, with plans for a 1.4nm A22 Pro. Apple is reportedly considering using Intel for some production alongside its usual partner TSMC.

Gurman notes that with John Ternus taking over as CEO, a looming RAM and component shortage, and AI everywhere, even solidly rumored plans could change.
