In Bauska municipality, in the Zemgale region of Latvia, a growing number of children and young people are seeking help with their problems. Data from both a non-governmental organisation and the municipal authority point to this trend.

The association "Laiks jauniešiem" ("Time for Youth") supports about 100 young people in the municipality each year. In almost a third of cases, immediate intervention is needed, meaning the situation is too serious to wait.

The difficulties young people face

Children and teenagers deal with a range of issues. These include relationship problems in the family and at school, addictions, depression and thoughts of suicide. This list covers only some of the difficulties that lead young people to ask for assistance.

Demand is rising

The municipality's Social Service says that demand for help is increasing. This year, 43 young people have already approached the service for support.

Bauska municipality is now looking for solutions to address these difficulties and to help young people who need assistance.
