Bentley unveils the Torcal, its first fully electric model
Bentley has officially unveiled the Torcal, its first fully electric car and fourth model line, offering up to 888 metric horsepower as the brand tries to buck a struggling luxury EV market.
Bentley today formally unveiled the Torcal, the brand's first battery-electric vehicle and its fourth model line alongside the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga. Named after a rock formation in Spain, the Torcal is smaller than the Bentayga and positioned as a more urban-focused, five-seat SUV.
Power and specs
The car uses two electric motors, one per axle. According to Ars Technica, the standard version produces 810 hp (604 kW) and 880 lb-ft (1,194 Nm) of torque, reaching 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds, while the more powerful Torcal S delivers 875 hp (653 kW) and 995 lb-ft (1,350 Nm), hitting 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. Wired cites slightly different figures — 821 PS for the base model and 888 PS for the S — a discrepancy likely tied to the difference between metric and imperial horsepower measurements; Wired also lists the S's 0-60 mph time as 2.9 seconds. Top speed is 155 mph (250 km/h) for the standard car and 162 mph (260 km/h) for the S.
Per Wired, the Torcal offers up to 375 miles of range on the WLTP cycle, or roughly 330 miles under EPA testing, and can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 16 minutes at 400 kW. Bentley shares underlying technology with Porsche, as both brands belong to the Volkswagen Group.
Pricing
Wired reports a starting price of $218,000 (£173,300) for the base model and $258,200 (£199,300) for the First Edition S — pricier than the Range Rover Electric, though comparable to that model's Autobiography trim. Ars Technica, however, notes that Bentley has not yet disclosed exact US pricing, so final figures may vary by market.
Design and interior
At the front, the Torcal features a new illuminated "crystal" grille, while the roofline slopes down at the rear for improved aerodynamics. Inside, OLED screens are paired with physical switchgear, a new wool trim developed with Fox Brothers, and wood veneer made from walnut off-cuts. An optional Naim sound system with 28 speakers is available. To simulate driving sound, Bentley recorded real instruments — drums, viola and bass guitar — rather than a digital engine imitation.
Context
Bentley chairman and CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser called the Torcal "one of the best Bentleys ever." The launch comes as demand for luxury EVs wavers: Lamborghini shelved its electric Lanzador concept, and Mercedes-Benz sold just 1,450 electric G-Wagens in Europe through April 2025.
