Berlin community remembers victims of Pride parade attack
Two days after a deadly attack during Berlin's Pride parade, residents gathered at Tiergarten park to pay tribute, leaving flowers, candles and messages.
Berliners gathered at Tiergarten park on Tuesday to commemorate the victims of an attack that occurred two days earlier, when a vehicle plowed into a crowd and the attacker used a machete.
A makeshift memorial formed near the tree where the attacker's vehicle crashed, with candles, flowers and messages such as “You are not alone” and “Don't let them divide us”. Rainbow flags and Pride symbols were also placed among the tributes.
The attack killed a 65-year-old Polish woman and injured 29 others. The suspect rented a minivan, drove into the crowd, then got out and attacked with a machete.
