Former Nõmme Kalju striker Promise David signs with Brighton & Hove Albion
Canada national team striker Promise David, who once played for Estonia's Nõmme Kalju, has joined English Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion. The deal includes an obligation to buy him from Belgium's Union Saint-Gilloise for €26 million.

Canadian international striker Promise David, a former player for Estonian Meistriliiga club Nõmme Kalju, has signed with English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion ahead of the new season.
According to Soccernet.ee, the 25-year-old has joined Brighton on a season-long loan that includes an obligation to buy him for €26 million from his current club, Belgian Pro League side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, should certain conditions be met.
Should the permanent transfer go through, Nõmme Kalju stands to receive a cut of between 10 and 20 percent of the €26 million fee, club president Kuno Tehva confirmed.
David played for Nõmme Kalju for a season and a half, from 2023 to 2024, before moving to Union Saint-Gilloise. With the Brussels-based club he won the Belgian Pro League title, two domestic cup competitions and the Belgian Super Cup, while also featuring in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.
Brighton sporting director Mike Cave described David as an out-and-out striker with outstanding physical attributes and a proven scoring record.
Over his time at Union Saint-Gilloise, David scored 41 goals in roughly half as many matches as goals scored, while also registering nine assists.
He represented Canada at the recent FIFA World Cup, setting up a goal in a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina and scoring Canada's only goal in a 2-1 defeat to eventual quarter-finalists Switzerland. Those results saw Canada finish second in Group B and reach the World Cup knockout stage for the first time in the country's history.
The 2026-2027 Premier League season kicks off this Friday. Brighton finished eighth in the league last season.
