On 6 October, the Riga District Court sentenced Endziņš to three years, 11 months and 28 days in prison, along with one year and six months of probation supervision. He was taken into custody in the courtroom after the verdict was announced.
The criminal case concerns the illegal acquisition and possession of narcotic substances in a large quantity with intent to sell. Endziņš did not plead guilty and had previously said he was confident he could prove his innocence. The ruling can still be appealed.
After his arrest, Endziņš was taken to hospital, where appendicitis was diagnosed. He later returned to detention.
