Brighton have turned down Liverpool's improved £60m bid for winger Yankuba Minteh, though talks between the clubs continue. Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola has admitted his squad currently lacks enough wingers ahead of the season.

Brighton have rejected an improved £60m bid from Liverpool for 22-year-old Gambia international Yankuba Minteh, though negotiations between the two clubs remain ongoing. The south coast club is reportedly holding out for a fee closer to £70m. Earlier in the week, Brighton had already turned down a £50m offer from Liverpool for the same player.

Minteh, who plays mainly on the right wing, joined Brighton from Newcastle in 2024 for £30m. Since then he has scored 10 goals and set up nine more in 73 appearances for the Seagulls.

Liverpool's interest comes after head coach Andoni Iraola admitted his side does not currently have enough wide players heading into the new season, though he expressed confidence a solution would be found before the transfer window closes. The club has also looked into a possible move for Paris Saint-Germain's Ibrahim Mbaye, while his PSG team-mate Bradley Barcola remains Liverpool's top target for the wide attacking positions.

Summer squad changes

Since taking over from Arne Slot as Liverpool head coach, Iraola has overseen the signings of Victor Munoz for £34.5m and Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona. A £60m deal for French centre-back Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, agreed back in January, has also gone through.

On the departures side, Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate have all left the club this summer, while Curtis Jones is finalising a £30m move to Inter Milan. Iraola acknowledged the squad still needs strengthening but stressed that what matters most is where things stand by 1 September, when the transfer window shuts.
