Fire breaks out at Bulgarian arms maker EMKO's ammunition warehouses

A fire broke out around 11 p.m. on Friday, September 11, at an ammunition warehouse operated by Bulgarian arms manufacturer EMKO near the village of Gorni Verpishta in the central part of the country, according to Nova.bg and Yevropeiska Pravda.

The blaze reportedly started at one facility before spreading to two neighboring ones. A total of 11 warehouses are located in the area. Several detonations were heard after the fire began, and warnings were sent out to local residents about the danger.

Only two security guards were on site at the time, and neither was injured. The nearest populated area is located about a kilometer from the warehouses.

On Saturday, Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev and the Interior Ministry's secretary general are expected to visit the site.

This is the second fire at EMKO facilities within the past month — a previous incident occurred at the company's production site near the village of Belitsa.

It is worth noting that Danish intelligence services recently warned of a growing threat of Russian sabotage against the defense industry. In Munich, unknown individuals threw incendiary devices onto a construction site in front of a defense company's headquarters.
