Burkina Faso severs diplomatic relations with France
Burkina Faso's military regime has cut diplomatic ties with France, accusing Paris of persistent hostility towards its interests.

Burkina Faso has officially announced the severance of diplomatic relations with France, accusing Paris of constantly acting against the country's interests. The military government, led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré, came to power in a coup in September 2022. Since then, the regime has demonstrated a strongly hostile stance toward Western nations, particularly France. This move further widens the rift between the former colony and its former colonial power.
