Chinese car manufacturer BYD has announced the European launch of its first pickup truck, the Shark. This five-seat vehicle features a plug-in hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive. It measures 5.46 meters in length and is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine that typically acts as a generator, along with two electric motors that together produce 436 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. The Shark comes with a 32.2 kWh battery, allowing an electric-only range of 90 km, while total range reaches 675 km. The pickup can tow up to 2,500 kg, with a payload of 790 kg and a cargo box volume of 1,200 liters. It includes various off-road driving modes such as sand, mud, snow, and gravel. The cabin offers a digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a head-up display, a Dynaudio sound system, heated and ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, and wireless phone charging. In Germany, the starting price is expected to be below €60,000, but official pricing and equipment details have not been announced yet. In Europe, the Shark will compete with models like the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, and VW Amarok.
