Celtic fall to Celta Vigo in Europe as ex-keeper Bonner questions their level
Scottish club Celtic came up short in a European match against Celta, a side eighth in Spain's La Liga. The aftermath raises the question of whether Celtic are simply not good enough at this level.

Scottish football club Celtic suffered a disappointing European result against Spanish La Liga side Celta, prompting wider questions about whether the Glasgow club is good enough at this level. Celta currently sit eighth in Spain's top division.
Control lost in the second half
Goalscorer Baur admitted that Celtic had not done enough to win. He said the way the team played over the last 30 minutes meant the opposition deserved the outcome. Asked why his team collapsed in such a manner, he replied: "I cannot tell you, sorry." In his view, after scoring, Celtic should have regained control and held the ball longer to take the momentum away from their opponents. That did not happen.
Centre-back Liam Scales had by far the most touches of any Celtic player, with 121. Left-back Kieran Tierney had 79 and goalkeeper Sam Johnstone 69.
Bonner: not good enough
Former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner told the Sportsound programme that Celtic are not good enough, individually or collectively, to take on a team that is eighth in La Liga. He said Celta moved the ball very well and Celtic could not get close to them. Bonner also said the club is paying big money for some players because supporters demand it, but that they arrive and are not good enough.
Celtic's next European fixture is on 5 November, when they host Besiktas. The club will be trying to reverse its continental struggles.
