Road authorities warn of asphalt bleeding during heatwave
Latvijas Valsts ceļi (LVC) warns that when air temperature exceeds +30°C, asphalt bleeding may occur on roads, particularly on old pavement and in patched pothole areas.

In the coming days, Latvia is expected to experience a heatwave with temperatures rising above +30°C. As a result, road asphalt surfaces will become extremely hot. According to Latvijas Valsts ceļi (LVC), asphalt bleeding—a condition where bitumen and asphalt mixture seeps to the surface—may develop on sections where the asphalt is old and in poor technical condition, as well as in areas where potholes have been repaired. This can make the road slippery and pose a safety hazard for drivers. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and adjust their driving style to the hot conditions, especially on roads with deteriorated pavement.
