In Cēsis Region, Raivis Apsītis Runs Six Fish Ponds to Feed His Family

Raivis Apsītis has built six ponds at the Lejnieki farm in Dzērbene Parish, Cēsis Region, Latvia. For ten years he has raised carp, trout, pike-perch and other fish there. His work was featured in the Latvian Radio programme Stiprie stāsti (Strong Stories).

Alongside fish farming, Apsītis advises other fish farmers. He also grows microalgae, which enrich the pond water with oxygen.

He says a pond is for him much like a vegetable garden of his own. According to the source, the fish are raised for his family.
