ChatGPT can now create animated GIFs
OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT can now produce animated GIFs from a text prompt or an uploaded photo, as part of the new Images 2.6 model. The company says users now generate over 4 billion images per week.

OpenAI, the US artificial intelligence company, has announced that its ChatGPT chatbot can now create animated GIF files. The feature arrives together with the company's new image generation model, Images 2.6. A GIF can be made from a written prompt or from a photo that the user uploads to the chatbot.
Users can change the animation's playback speed, edit individual frames and share the finished file with others. Until now, ChatGPT could not natively generate GIFs in a single step. As an example, OpenAI showed the prompt "can you make a gif of a cat dancing?", to which the chatbot responds with an animation and lets the user adjust its speed or step through it frame by frame.
Faster image generation
OpenAI says the Images 2.6 update also speeds up image generation in ChatGPT. According to the company, users now generate more than 4 billion images per week across ChatGPT and its API, the programming interface developers use to access its models. In September it had reported 3 billion per week.
Availability
Images 2.6 is rolling out to all ChatGPT and Codex users on web, desktop and mobile apps. OpenAI is also launching GPT-Image-2.6 Flare and Sunburst in its API, aimed at faster and higher-quality image generation.
GIF is a widely used format for short animated images that are commonly shared online.
