God of War Laufey delayed to May 20, 2027
Santa Monica Studio has pushed back its PlayStation 5 exclusive God of War Laufey by three months. The game is now due on May 20, 2027.
Santa Monica Studio, part of Sony's PlayStation Studios, has moved the release of its upcoming video game God of War Laufey to May 20, 2027. The game, exclusive to the PlayStation 5 console, was originally due on February 16. The three-month delay affects one of Sony's biggest first-party titles of 2027.
The studio's statement
The studio announced the decision in a social media post. It said that since the game was revealed in June, it has seen strong enthusiasm for the journey of the protagonist, Faye, through the Everywhen. The developers said they value the trust fans have placed in them and want to deliver an experience worthy of it. Until the new date, the team plans to add finishing touches and push the game to its fullest potential.
A crowded release calendar
The move gives the game more breathing room, as many other releases are expected in early 2027. These include Sony's own Until Dawn 2, which launches on January 28. The company also typically releases each annual edition of the baseball game MLB The Show in March. The new date ensures Sony will have at least one first-party game out in the spring quarter of 2027.
About the story
In God of War Laufey, players control Faye, whose death shortly before the 2018 game God of War set that game's story in motion. In the new title, Faye reawakens in the afterlife and goes on her own adventure, which runs in parallel with the events involving her husband Kratos and son Atreus in God of War and God of War Ragnarök. The game also features a talking jelly cube.
