ChatGPT can now connect to Apple Messages and send texts on your behalf
OpenAI has launched a new Apple Messages plug-in for ChatGPT, letting users link their Messages inbox to the chatbot to sort, analyze and even send texts. The feature raises new privacy questions.

OpenAI has released a new plug-in that lets ChatGPT users connect their Apple Messages inbox directly to the chatbot. The company says the integration offers several practical benefits for everyday use.
With the plug-in, users can ask ChatGPT to sort, analyze or edit their messages without leaving the chat interface. The feature also works with Codex and ChatGPT Work, meaning it can be used for professional purposes as well as personal ones.
A promotional video from OpenAI shows a user asking ChatGPT to suggest follow-up replies to contacts based on messages received the previous day. Beyond that, the tool can delete messages, draft and send new messages on a user's behalf, and search through message history for specific information.
Privacy concerns
As with many AI features, the plug-in raises privacy questions. OpenAI told Bloomberg that it runs locally on a user's device and does not build a full index of all their messages. However, the company has not clarified exactly what that means in practice, and TechCrunch has contacted OpenAI for further details.
Regarding the message-sending capability, OpenAI advises users to closely monitor what ChatGPT does on their behalf. The company also warns against enabling persistent approval, noting that doing so removes a user's final chance to review a message before it is sent in their name.
