Chery Tiggo 4 and Tiggo 9: Comparing Latvia's Best-Selling Chery Models

Chinese automaker Chery has gained a strong foothold in the Latvian market, and sales patterns reveal an interesting trend: buyers tend to pick either the brand's cheapest model, the Tiggo 4, or its most expensive, the Tiggo 9. In base trim, the Tiggo 4 costs nearly half as much as its larger seven-seat sibling.

Tiggo 4 - practical and affordable

The exterior design emphasizes practicality. The model is a hybrid, evidenced by orange cable sheathing under the hood, and even this entry-level trim features two hood struts. Fuel consumption sits around 6.5 liters per 100 km, giving a range of up to 800 km on a full tank. Due to the car's compact size, the driving position is somewhat unusual with limited adjustment options. The cabin has two screens and a simple gear selector, though the stock tires - not the premium kind - can lose grip in wet conditions. Despite its simplicity, the car handles rough roads reasonably well, since it has little that can break or fall off.

Tiggo 9 - the flagship

The Tiggo 9 sits at the top of Chery's lineup, featuring flush door handles and a super-hybrid powertrain. Combined output reaches 422 horsepower, and thanks to a 35 kWh battery, the car can travel more than 140 kilometers on electric power alone. Total range exceeds 1000 kilometers. The cabin is fully localized into Latvian and finished in a pleasant coffee tone rather than the usual black or gray. Notably, steering wheel adjustment remains mechanical, while mirrors are adjusted via the touchscreen. Second-row seats are heated and ventilated, though there's no separate climate zone for rear passengers. The car also has hands-free call speakers built into the headrests. The Tiggo 9 fully qualifies for Latvia's EKKI co-payment support scheme for electrified vehicles.
