Coventry beat Newcastle 4-1 to score four top-flight goals for first time since 2000
Premier League newcomers Coventry City beat Newcastle United 4-1 at home, their second straight win, and moved up to 14th place.

In English football's Premier League, the country's top division, newly promoted Coventry City beat Newcastle United 4-1 at their home ground, the CBS Arena. It was Coventry's second consecutive win, following a victory at Nottingham Forest before the international break, and it lifts the club to 14th in the table. They scored four goals in a top-flight match for the first time since May 2000, when they beat Sheffield Wednesday 4-1.
A win after home setbacks
Before this, Coventry's home games had brought a 1-0 defeat by fellow promoted side Hull City and a 5-0 loss to Brighton. In between, they lost 3-1 to Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup. Manager Frank Lampard said players are developing quickly, noting that many had few or no Premier League minutes before this season, and named Jack Rudoni, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Ephron Mason-Clark. He said the team must balance confidence against overconfidence and will be a relative underdog in nearly every match.
Cherif the standout
Lampard gave a first Premier League start to 19-year-old forward Sidi Cherif, who joined in the summer from Turkey's Fenerbahce for a reported £20m. Cherif won an early penalty and scored from outside the box, his first goal in his fourth Coventry appearance. At 19 years and 301 days, he is the club's youngest Premier League scorer since Robbie Keane in April 2000. He is also the first Coventry player to score from outside the area in the Premier League since David Thompson in January 2001.
Hadji Wright remains out with a serious thigh injury, so much of the scoring burden is likely to fall on Cherif. Coventry scored 97 goals while winning the Championship, the second tier, last season.
What comes next
Coventry's next games are against Tottenham and Fulham, both of whom are winless. After that, fixtures against Sunderland, Everton, Crystal Palace, Leeds and Ipswich take the team into December.
