Cricut launches new DIY machines for printing and cutting custom stickers

Cricut, known for its lineup of cutting, embossing and heat-pressing machines aimed at home crafters, has expanded its product range with two new devices focused specifically on sticker-making.

Two machines, different capabilities

The smaller of the two, the StickerPix Print, measures 7.8 x 5 x 3.5 inches and can print on 4 x 6-inch photo paper or Cricut's pre-cut sticker sheets. The larger StickerPix Print + Cut, at 8 x 11.3 x 4.1 inches, marks the first time the company has combined its cutting technology with a printer in a single machine. This means users are not limited to the predetermined shapes of pre-cut sticker sheets and can cut custom shapes using 4 x 7-inch sticker sheets or photo paper.

Technology and limitations

Both machines use dye-sublimation technology, applying heat to transfer dye directly onto the printing material, followed by a laminate layer that makes the finished prints resistant to water, scratches and fading. Other Cricut machines require a separate inkjet printer and special laminate sheets to achieve similar results, so the new devices could save space for those mainly interested in printing photos and stickers. However, unlike Cricut's other machines, the StickerPix Print and Print + Cut can only produce so-called kiss-cut stickers, which remain attached to a single backing sheet rather than being fully separated as die-cut stickers.

Software and pricing

Both machines require the Cricut Design Space app on a phone or computer to operate, which likely pushes users toward a Cricut Access subscription for additional templates and discounts. The devices are available now, with the StickerPix Print starting at $169 and the Print + Cut starting at $299. Both come bundled with sticker sheets, photo paper and an ink cartridge.
