Delfi journalist becomes a hockey goalie in 'D sector' season finale
After six months of sports prediction bets, Delfi journalists Jānis Bendziks and Almants Poikāns used rock-paper-scissors to determine the loser, who then experienced being a hockey goalie under fire.
In each episode of the show "D sector", Jānis Bendziks and Almants Poikāns make bets on upcoming sports events. The loser has to endure a real athlete's hardship. This season, inspired by the Olympic year, they agreed that the loser would face the challenge of a hockey goalie bombarded by pucks.
After half a year of predictions, both journalists turned out to be equally skilled, so they decided the loser by a game of rock-paper-scissors. The challenge took place at the Volvo sports center, where they were welcomed by HK "Mogo/RSU" coach Ģirts Ankipāns and Latvian champion team goalie Kārlis Mežsargs, who lent his gear.
The episode shows the journalist stepping onto the ice, putting on goalie equipment, and facing shots. The video captures the entire experience, from preparation to the moment of truth. It was the season finale, combining sports action with the journalists' humorous bet.
