The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is working with Derbyshire Police to investigate suspicions that a police officer used artificial intelligence (AI) to fabricate evidence in several criminal cases. The officer has been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

The CPS stated it is cooperating with defense teams and courts that may have been affected by the officer's actions. Sky News reports that the case came to light shortly after the launch of "PoliceAI", the UK's national police AI center. Acting director Alex Murray explained that crime and technology are evolving rapidly, so police must adopt AI responsibly to catch criminals and ensure public safety.

Earlier this year, West Midlands Police had to apologize after it emerged that staff relied on false AI-generated information when deciding whether to allow Tel Aviv's Maccabi fans to attend a match against Aston Villa. The Safety Advisory Group (SAG) banned the fans based on police advice that included a reference to a fabricated match between the Israeli club and West Ham United, which had been created by AI.
