IT company Dativa and Riga Technical University (RTU) are collaborating on a new document editor with artificial intelligence (AI) functionality that will operate in a web browser. The solution, named DokEdit, is designed to automate the document creation process, reduce error risk, and improve document structure and security.

According to Dativa director Edžus Žeiris, the document will be generated automatically based on system recommendations, but final modifications will be made by the user. The system will offer suggestions for improving document quality, perform Latvian grammar checks highlighting errors and recommending replacements, and suggest corrections for formatting and content. DokEdit aims to make documents more structured, transparent, and secure for further use in digital processes.

During development, Dativa specialists consulted potential users to tailor the solution to their needs. The company notes that the new system will also reduce financial costs for portal maintainers as it will be free of charge. Additionally, it will enhance document security by minimizing unwanted copies.

RTU associate professor Aleksejs Jurenoks emphasizes that the collaboration between the university and the company is mutually beneficial. Researchers are working with language models, involving a doctoral student and several master's students. They gain valuable research experience while the company can focus on product development and market introduction.

DokEdit is being developed as an open-source library that will be available to the IT industry in Latvia and internationally starting from late 2026. The solution will be suitable for both small and large IT projects requiring document processing.
