Two free tyre collection drives in Rumbula gather 845 tonnes of used tyres
Two free collection drives this year at the “Nomales” construction waste sorting centre in Riga took in 845 tonnes of used tyres, roughly 100,000 tyres. The waste management company “CleanR Verso” reported the results.
Residents handed over a total of 845 tonnes of used car tyres, around 100,000 tyres, in two free collection drives this year at the “Nomales” construction waste sorting and recycling centre in Rumbula, Riga. The centre is run by the waste management company “CleanR Verso”. The spring drive brought in 425 tonnes, while the autumn drive, held from 19 to 31 October, collected 420 tonnes. The results show that demand for free tyre disposal remains high in both seasonal tyre-change periods.
The company's assessment
“CleanR Verso” management board chairman Ēriks Gusevs said the volume reflects both residents' willingness to act responsibly and the need for accessible disposal options. According to him, tyres are often stored for years in garages, sheds or farm yards because people do not know where to take them. The company aims to keep used tyres out of nature and illegal dumps and ensure they are properly handled.
Where to leave tyres outside the drives
Used tyres must not be put in household waste bins or left in nature; they have to be taken to suitable collection points. The company notes that outside the drives, private individuals can also hand over up to four passenger car tyres free of charge at “Nomales”, so there is no need to wait for the next drive.
The centre is at Brīvnieku iela 11 in Rumbula. More information is available by phone at 6713 0000 or by email at kc@cleanrverso.lv.
